timeless tales, diverse voices and rich cultural

heritage. Indian literature is a treasure trove of

wisdom, where every region, language and era adds

its own unique voice, making it one of the most

diverse and profound literary traditions in the world.

From epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata

to the insightful fables of the Panchatantra and the

Hitopadesha and the witty, value-filled tales of Akbar–

Birbal and Tenali Raman, it reflects the depth of our

history. Students will draw inspiration from the rich world of Indian literature, exploring works such as Malgudi Days/ The Guide by R. K. NarayanThe Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond,  Untouchable by Mulk Raj AnandKanthapura by Raja RaoThe God of Small Things by Arundhati RoyThe Namesake by Jhumpa LahiriThe Shadow Lines by Amitav Ghosh, selected stories of Rabindranath Tagore along with other timeless tales. They will also engage with the powerful narratives of Mansarovar/ Godaan by Munshi Premchand and works of other Hindi authors. Grade-wise suggested reading lists will be provided to guide students across different levels.

Alongside stories, poetry forms the soul of our literary tradition, expressing emotions, rhythm and creativity across generations.

This special week embraces the richness of English,

Hindi and Sanskrit, offering students a unique

opportunity to experience literature through multiple

languages. Through stories, poems, recitations and

creative expressions, students across all grades will

explore the magic of words, the joy of reading and the

 beauty of our cultural roots.

Students are also encouraged to explore the National

Digital Library of India (Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya), a

valuable digital repository that offers access to a wide

range of Indian texts across languages and genres.

This platform supports our theme by enabling

learners to discover the depth and diversity of Indian

literature anytime, anywhere.

READING PLEDGE

I promise to read

Each day and each night.

I know it’s the key

To growing up right.

I’ll read to myself,

I’ll read to a crowd.

It makes no difference

If silent or loud.

I’ll read at my desk,

At home and at school,

On my bean bag or bed,

By the fire or pool.

Each book that I read

Puts smarts in my head,

‘Cause brains grow more thoughts

The more they are fed.

So I take this oath

To make reading my way

Of feeding my brain

What it needs every day.

Students were given the choice to participate in one of two activities — Short Story Writing or Bookmark Designing. In the short story writing task, students composed original stories rooted in Indian settings, reflecting cultural values, festivals, traditions, and meaningful themes. The stories displayed imagination, creativity, and a deep connection with Indian ethos. Each story carried an engaging title and a thoughtful tagline, making the narratives impactful and memorable.

In the bookmark designing activity, students created colourful and artistic bookmarks inspired by quotes selected from Indian literary works suggested on the school library blog. The bookmarks beautifully combined art and literature, with illustrations that complemented the chosen quotes and highlighted the essence of Indian writing.

The students showed great enthusiasm, originality, and sincerity in completing their entries. The submissions reflected neat presentation, thoughtful effort, and a clear understanding of the theme. The activity not only enhanced their creative writing and artistic skills but also deepened their appreciation for Indian literature.
